We, as residents of Alaska, are writing you and your administration to request you vigorously support and defend the renewable resources of Bristol Bay.   

Proposals to mine gold, copper and other metals in the headwaters of the Bristol Bay Watershed threaten its world famous fisheries, and the businesses, communities and families (such as yours) they support.  Sustainable long term salmon harvests are worth far more to us and to Alaska than the metals that may lie beneath these hills and lakes. 

Harvesting and processing of Bristol Bay fish generates an average of $320 million a year, and jobs for some 12,500 people. 
Bristol Bay residents, on average, harvest 2.4 million pounds of subsistence salmon per year, about 315 pounds per person. 
Sport fishing adds more than $60 million dollars a year to the area’s economy.   
There is no doubt that responsible mining will continue to be vital to the Alaskan economy.  But, in Bristol Bay, salmon - and the communities and businesses that they support - come first.
